The SDA is an association sans but lucratif (asbl), this is a not-for-profit organisation recognised under Belgian law. It was established in May 2004. The purpose of the agency is “to promote Europe’s social dimension in a globalised world”. The SDA staff includes those who formerly ran the Infopoint project for the ETUC with the support of the European Commission. The ‘Infopoint’ project is now managed by the SDA and will remain at the centre of its activates. SDA will be working under the umbrella of, and is supported by the ETUC. The SDA’s tasks are mainly focused on promoting the European social dimension, with a specific interest in European Social Dialogue. More specifically, the SDA team carry out the following activities: participate in and carry out specific projects relating to social issues promote activities relating to social dialogue promote the international dimension of social dialogue develop advisory services and assistance for European Works Councils and workforce representatives in SE’s (European Companies)disseminate results and experiences in the area of social dialogue undertake public relations activities in the field of social dialogue organise expert networking systems The SDA is composed of three main departments: Social Dialogue and Information and consultation rights. This department is responsible for studies and research as well as networking with experts in social dialogue and industrial relations in Europe. The department maintains a database on the content of EWC’s agreements and can provide expertise to workers’ representatives in EWCs and SEs. The Director of this department is Claudio Stanzani (ad interim). Projects on European budget headings. This department takes the lead in selecting budget line opportunities and the preparation and management of SDA projects. The department also provides information and assistance on budget lines for affiliates of the SDA. The Director of this department is Michel Mortelette. Common services and development. This department focuses its activities internal, legal and tax services, external services for the ETUC and SDA affiliates as well as tenders and contracts. The department also provides a translation service and deals with editing, interpretation and the organization of events. The Director of this department is Ludo Veekemans.
